Who are the Coaches?
Put simply - you are! Our coaches are all parent volunteers.
Without volunteer coaches and co-coaches we are not able to field teams, no matter how many children are registered. Some of our coaches play soccer or have previous training; others are new to the sport.
If it weren't for our volunteer coaches, the cost to play soccer would be $100 to $200 more per player. Plus there is no way we could find enough paid coaches to cover the 55+ teams we have each season.
Want to be a volunteer coach?
Please register as a coach in the RAMP registration system. ONLINE REGISTRATION LINK or contact info@fortsasksoccer.ca
All volunteers are required to provide a RCMP Criminal Record Check. Record Checks are completed free of charge for Minor Sports Volunteers. Ask our office for a letter which identifies you as one of our volunteers.
Coach Incentive Program
We have introduced a coach incentive program starting the 2022 outdoor season. Our coaches will receive a rebate of the registration fees at the end of the season when the equipment for their team is returned along with their volunteer deposit refund. Rebates are:
U5/U7 coaches will receive 10% of the registration fee.
U9 - U19 coaches will receive 10% for the first year of the incentive program and then 5% increase for every year they have coached (U9 - U19) after that.
The rebate will be applied to one registration fee of a child on the team that the coach is coaching. E.g. If there are 2 children on one team the rebate will be applied to one child's registration fees. If the coach is coaching 2 teams with a child on each, the rebate will be applied to both children.
Thinking of coaching but don't know much about soccer?
Experience not required!
Most of our coaches start out with lots of enthusiasm and very little soccer knowledge, so do not let this stop you from signing up to coach. We do require that all coaches have a valid Criminal Record Check on file with the Fort Saskatchewan Minor Sports Association.
We pay for our coaches to take the CSA/ASA Long Term Player Development Coaching Courses (formerly called NCCP Courses). These courses are interesting, fun, hugely information, helpful and definitely worth a few hours our your time.
Where are the coaching courses?
Coaching courses are held online or in the Edmonton area
The Locker (coach.ca)
The Alberta Soccer Association requires all coaches to have completed the appropriate coaching course.
