What if it is raining? Who do I call.
The City of Fort Saskatchewan has launched a new interactive map to help our users track whether sports field(s) and parks are open or closed.
With this new map, Sports Field Updates will no longer be sent out by email and users are asked to refer the map for updates on their field status. Updates will be posted to the map by 3:00 pm on week days. If weather turns poor after 3:00 pm or on weekends, it is up to the sports leagues (coaches, referees etc.) to make the best decision for the players safety and/or the condition of the fields to determine usage.
Information on Sports Field Status updates, including the link to the interactive map, can be found at fortsask.ca/SportsFields
The City of Fort Sask. determines when soccer fields are open. During heavy or prolonged rain, play is not allowed on the fields.
Please do not call the offices of Fort Saskatchewan Soccer or Fort Saskatchewan Minor Sports. They can only refer you to the City's website.
It is raining out; should we play?
There are only 4 reasons that rain stops soccer.
#1 - The fields are closed by the City - The teams DO NOT show up for these games or practices.
#2 - Fields are open but the Referee has determined that damage may happen to the field or a player may get hurt due to the field conditions. Teams MUST show up for the game unless the team has been notified that the game or practice has been cancelled
#3 - Fields are open but the referee has determined by following the lightening rule that the game is postponed or cancelled. Teams MUST show up for the game unless the team has been notified that the game or practice has been cancelled.
#4 - Fields are open but the coach or program director has determined that the practice is postponed or cancelled due to weather or field conditions. Teams DO NOT show up for these practices. Check your email or team notification application (e.g. Team Snap) or the Facebook and twitter feeds on our website home page for any cancellation notices.
If conditions are too wet/dangerous and the city has indicated the fields are closed, please contact your coach. Please check the Facebook and twitter feeds on our website home page for any cancellation notices.
In some cases heavy rain or lightening can occur after 3 p.m. In this case only the referee can cancel the game, therefore both teams have to be present at the game and await the referee's decision. If the fields are deemed unsafe due to heavy rain the referee may decide to cancel the game.
Games can also be affected by the air quality. Please read the information below:
Community U13-U19 Team AQI Procedure https://emsamain.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/EMSA-Air-Quality-Procedure-Community.pdf
EMSA Board has passed the following new Air Quality Index Procedure. These links will supersede any links sent out by ASA. ASA has been informed these are the links we will be using for EMSA games.
When Fort Saskatchewan sports fields are closed teams can practice on the green space surrounding the sports fields, just not on the actual sports field.
