U3 Outdoor Program

The outdoor season starts the first week of May (weather and field conditions permitting) and finishes with our Timbit Jamboree on Saturday, June 27.

Our U3 teams play once a week at 6:00 pm at the RCMP or Mowatt Park outdoor rinks. Your U3 child will play on either Monday or Wednesday evening depending on which day you chose when you registered your child.

All parents must stay and watch while their children are playing on the fields.

Alberta Soccer Association (ASA) has rolled out their grassroots program. We are looking at implementing parts of this at the U3, U5 and U7 levels. This will not affect our 2020 outdoor season but will be implemented for our 2020/21 indoor season and subsequent season. Going forward, we will look to grow the grassroots program in accordance to ASA while acknowledging that the development of our Fort Saskatchewan Soccer players come first.

ASA believes that players at this age level benefit more from learning soccer basics by keeping all players engaged by more ball touches. The proposed ASA grassroots plan is to have no teams at these age levels. However, this does not align with the Fort Saskatchewan Soccer methodology. Our proposed plan is to have all players associated with a team and a set of skilled coaches. The team will be subdivided and will rotate through skill centres that are designed to focus on learning and applying technical skills and drills, ranging from basic to more advanced, from the Soccer is Everything manuals. Players will reconvene into their designated teams and will then have a 30-minute scrimmage against another team focusing on using the skills they have acquired at each learning centre.

All U3 players must wear shorts, shin pads and socks which cover their shin pads. U3 players can wear outdoor sneakers. However, we recommend outdoor soccer cleats since the grass is very slippery when it is wet. Jerseys are generously provided by Tim Hortons. U3 players can keep their jerseys at the end of the season.

For their safety players are not allowed to wear any jewellery (earrings, necklaces, bracelets, headbands, etc.) during games or practices. Taping of jewellery is not sufficient to prevent player injury.
